And you Democrats ought to consider something. If Biden doesn’t care any more about his religion than he seems to, what in the world makes you think he cares anything about you?
On this forum we are not supposed to question a person’s faith. Wondering about what photo ops Biden has attended is pharisaical, to me. Consider the parable of the widow’s mite when a politician uses a church as a background to demonstrate his or her piety.

Thankfully religious leaders are speaking out against the actions Trump has taken and called them what they are anti Christian. He is not representative of the Christian values we’re told to uphold. Hopefully now we are beginning to see him for what he’s attempting to do.

Citing abortion is this forum Godwin’s Law. When it is cited in a thread having nothing to do with abortion, all useful dialog ends.
In the last seven days I have seen abortion used to defend Trump from the following actions:
  1. Tear gassing peaceful protestors so he could have a photo op
  2. Retweeting a video in which a supporter said “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”
  3. Tweeting a threat to kill American citizens.
There are probably others. Especially discomforting is that Trump isn’t even anti-abortion. He supports it in cases of rape and incest. I’m starting to believe it isn’t his quasi-anti-abortion stance, it’s the rest of his policies his supporters like.

I see there are many people, mostly in the media, more upset about President Trump walking to St. John’s Church and holding up a bible than about the church being lit on fire by rioters.
It is reasonable to ask the last time he did it when there were no rioters and no one watching.

This isn’t the day to start a new habit that can only be begun by inflaming a situation that is already too inflamed as it is. How can someone in a leadership position ask for restraint and common sense from others when he doesn’t require that of himself first? It doesn’t make sense to ask someone else to stop acting like the rules don’t apply to them while simultaneously presuming that no boundaries apply to you. It is oblivious. Clueless.

This is a man who needs to find someone with some common sense and listen to them instead of following his impulses while expecting others not to follow theirs.

The local bishop (Archbishop Gregory) commented that he found Trump’s planned visit to the St John Paul II National Shrine “baffling and reprehensible.”

This is what Archbishop Gregory had to say about Trump’s actions yesterday:
“Saint Pope John Paul II was an ardent defender of the rights and dignity of human beings. His legacy bears vivid witness to that truth," Gregory said. "He certainly would not condone the use of tear gas and other deterrents to silence, scatter or intimidate them for a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace.”

I wonder if Joe Biden’s visit to a church required shooting off teargas?
It helps to make a courtesy call to be sure it is a good time to visit.

[June 1, 2020] The following is a statement from Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry:

This evening, the President of the United States stood in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church, lifted up a bible, and had pictures of himself taken. In so doing, he used a church building and the Holy Bible for partisan political purposes. This was done in a time of deep hurt and pain in our country, and his action did nothing to help us or to heal us.

The bible teaches us that “God is love.” Jesus of Nazareth taught, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The prophet Micah taught that the Lord requires us to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”

The bible the President held up and the church that he stood in front of represent the values of love, of justice, of compassion, and of a way to heal our hurts.

We need our President, and all who hold office, to be moral leaders who help us to be a people and nation living these values. For the sake of George Floyd, for all who have wrongly suffered, and for the sake of us all, we need leaders to help us to be “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”

It seemed a rather useless piece of theater. He didn’t read from the bible. He didn’t ask for God’s blessing or protection. Actually, he didn’t call on God at all.

To tell you the truth, he reminded me of a Price is Right model showing off a product.

People choosing to be enraged by the President walking over to the church and holding a Bible need to get a life instead of using every waking moment being angry with anything and everything that President Trump says and does.
Now, you knew someone would respond.

This situation is similar to the pandemic and shelter in place orders. Some people want the orders to be rescinded simply because they are done sheltering and want to move on.

Trump continues to act like a tyrant and a despot, but you want us to stop complaining about it because apparently we’ve been complaining long enough.

In both cases the underlying reason is still just as valid as it was in the past.

Defending abortion is not “useful dialogue” only because it’s indefensible. Trump gets called unchristian because he causes a crowd to move just like every president does, but killing children is okay. An amazing irony in that. I’ll keep saying that, as every Christian should until the pro-abortion forces eventually realize what evils they’re promoting.

I cannot 100% tell you how I would treated him a hypothetical, no. I hope I’d be fair, but we are all partisans to some degree.

But my critique was not of those who disliked the use of tear gas. I didn’t even mention the tear gas or protest. I took issue with saying he is a fake-Christian (paraphrasing) and that a Saint who the President seems fond of would be rolling over in his grave. That goes beyond honest disagreement or dislike.

I didn’t care for how the ACA was forced through Congress with zero Republican votes. I don’t recall anyone saying “Obama clearly hates God.” Kind of a difference.

I doubt it. But he’s okay with killing half the black children before they’re born. If those children were asked if they would take tear gas in preference to being ripped to pieces without anaesthetic, probably they would choose the tear gas, doncha think?

And I have seen people defend tearing children apart because the government moved a crowd that refused to move like other crowds do when other presidents visit a place.

No. We actually like the fact that he would save nearly every child from abortion, and he’s moving toward the Church’s teaching instead of away from it like Biden and his followers are.

Your irrelevancy is astounding.

Presidential visits move crowds but not every president shoves church people aside to stage a photo op. Tying anything Trump did yesterday to the multi-faceted issue of abortion is just ludicrous.

Has it become an ‘either/or’ issue? Anyone who criticizes Trump automatically believes that killing the unborn is ok? Can we stick to the issue here?

You have shown exactly how ‘Godwin’s law’ applies here.

I am not going to bother and will take your word for it. I’ve been around with various pseudonyms since 2003, and while tensions are often high, I didn’t see nearly the volume of vitriol thrown at Bush and Obama. If someone did call him the anti-Christ, of course that was nonsense.

So you would lump those folks in with the folks claiming Trump is a fake-Christian I assume. Both are clueless, ignorant, and likely acting in a way very distasteful to God, biblically speaking.
