I have had immigrants in my home, shared a meal of what little I had. I gave rides. I revised resumes. I watched children. I helped with English. I work in ESL testing so children can be guaranteed a free and adequate education.

What have you done?
I don’t understand. Why are you making this a game of “Who is holier?” How is that relevant? But we are glad to know you are up for canonization!

You said I’m doing something. I didn’t issue these statements. I didn’t even start this thread.

you said you were fighting for families and I said you were doing more than that. I am happy to explain but don’t see where the ‘I am not the pope’ comes into the discussion.

Have you guys ever read about “dignity cultures”, “honor cultures” and “face cultures”? It explains a lot about immigrants, multi-culturalism, and why we don’t always all just get along.

You said that the Bishops made the statement not to do a whole “thoughts and prayers charade” but to call people to action.

Agreeing with sentiment is useless you act on it. Screen door on a submarine.

So do you really agree or just want the participation trophy?

We’re not obligated to over extend ourselves to the point of National Security Risk or Financial Ruin.

As an impartial observer of your conversation with Xanthippe, is your remark about canonization really necessary?

You’re not impartial. I remember your participation in the immigration thread yesterday.

But it’s okay. It’s a natural and human thing to feel allegiance (and defensiveness) towards those who you have more in common with.

No, I did not say I was fighting for the family. I was talking about the statements from the USCCB and the Pope. You might need to read my post again.

Now you know where “I’m not the Pope” came from.

I agree about the defensive part but I have no antipathy to you or Xanthippe for that matter, hence the word impartial.

We may disagree but I still respect your point of view.

Mass immigration from non-English speaking, non-European nations will change American society forever.
And how many Syrian refugees have been resettled into Vatican City? Can refugees just show up there and be granted entrance and all the same benefits you think the American people should provide for them?

I ignored it out of charity. The poster said we should give our all. I listed how I did.

I’m thinking that this is very much a “what side are you on”. Are you “really” Catholic and agree with the Pope/Bishops or are you a “fake” Catholic who picks what you want?

But choosing to follow the Bishops/Popes isn’t about political sides or making a call to Congress. It’s about what you live/eat/breathe.

I know what I do. I agree with the idea that children should not be separated. I disagree with the way the leadership of the Catholic Church has chosen to express the issue in America. So good morality but bad delivery.

You do realize the Vatican and the USA are very, very, very different in size and population, right?

The question is also about viability, culture and exporting what works.

You are always going to have refugees. Having them always go to the US and Europe is a way to threaten the destruction of those places.
