Why wouldn’t I? I would expect that other Catholics have done so in the past.

Your assumption here is that he’s infallible in everything he says!

For the umpteenth time, it is not twice as much when you take into consideration the rate/percentage of criminal activity by each group!

For example, if Blacks commit 50% of violent crimes in America, but make up only 13% of the population, then the percentage of unarmed Blacks killed by cops is not 32% or more than twice that of Whites.

Blacks and Whites are NOT committing crimes at the same rate/percentage, i.e., Blacks are disproportionately committing crimes relative to their population then Whites.

Yes, he is a smart man but even the humblest of men, which I hope the pope is would not presume to think he’s always right.

Nor should I expect him to always be right.

And again.
Zero evidence of racism.
All evidence will be disclosed in court despite how brutal the death of Mr. Floyd appeared.
Prejudging as racism is wrong and inflammatory
This is what I’ve been asking for, evidence that Chauvin acted out of racism.
Clearly it is possible, but no evidence has been offered in the media.
That, of course, does not make his brutality less offensive. My concern is that the focus on yet to be presented racism distracts from the underlying problem: Chauvin was a government agent, working for the mayor of Minneapolis. Mr. Floyd was an American citizen, whose rights and life were taken from him by the Minneapolis government.

It’s a wonder why he was still policing after having had a dozen complaints filed against him??

But that should not matter when we are talking about innocent victims, not criminals. Crime is an excuse.

Stop presuming that all Black victims shot by police were innocent just because they were unarmed, i.e., Michael Brown was unarmed but he was not a victim of police brutality or racism as you suggested.

The article I cited simply stated that 9 unarmed Black males were killed by cops. Nothing was presumed about their innocence.

So the numbers you derived only works if all are presumed innocent as you have done.

But I know he shouldn’t have said what he said because we don’t even know yet if what Chauvin did was racially motivated.

Michael Brown was not guilty of anything that warranted lethal force to be used against him. And many of the others I list, which you ignored, were totally innocent.

…which shows that your article does not address my claim, which was that innocent blacks are victimized much more often than innocent whites. You cited that article, supposedly, to refute my claim.

I don’t think the Pope said the Chauvin was personally motivated by racism. He said that the killing was the result of the sin of racism. That racism could reside, not just in Derek Chauvin, but in the system of which he is a part. Or it could be sin of our entire society. The Pope identified a sin, not a legal finding. I think the Pope is more qualified to identify a sin than anyone in this forum.

He tried to wrestle a gun off of a police officer, so no, he’s not exactly innocent.

And we’re talking of systemic racism, not isolated incidences that are spread out over a period of years.

Note: You missed my point entirely.

I’ve read the thread in it’s entirety, and most should rest assured, yes, the Pope is right on this political persuasions aside. Someone of integrity has to speak out on this and be a leader, we don’t have a leader of our nation right now that is doing that so I can appreciate the words from the chair of Peter…ex cathedra or not…the topic is moral.

The economical background of African Americans is an interesting one. Not entitled to owning land (mountains on the importance of ownership as a main vein within Catholic teaching) has been a detriment to their families through the history of our country. The benefit of heredity was also stripped from them through lack of ownership, heredity is biblically inherent as a blessing and bestowed from the labors of the Father to the son…heirs so to speak…with all the benefits associated with it.

To be denied the aforementioned that is easily taken for granted and was not a deterrent for many of our forefathers first coming to this country cannot be underscored enough. It’s how many of us moved forward.

How does a man/woman pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they have no boots?

If we believe in our faith that tells us that work and creativity are inerrant in mans hearts and minds and we have been made in the Image and Likeness of God to “create” please don’t denounce the man that wasn’t given the same footing at the start of the race. In doing so you are doing an injustice by furthering the wrongful notion that the man that begins 20 yards behind all others in the race is supposed to be as much a winner as the one given the head start.

My claim stands that police killings of innocent whites hardly ever happens like it does for blacks.
Apparently you missed my earlier post (#219) to you in reply to your previous similar statement:
Well, first, your list includes Michael Brown, who turned out not to be innocent. So your list is not really trustworthy, if it is supposed to be a list of innocent black people killed by police.

Second, there is no list of innocent white people killed by police. There are no protests or riots when an innocent white person is killed by police.

Ex-cop acquitted in fatal shooting of unarmed man at hotel (Daniel Shaver, forced to crawl down hall when shot)

https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5912976 – Dillon Taylor killed after walking away from police with hands in waistband, when he turned, police shot him

From just 2 months (Nov. And Dec., 2016) of list maintained by Guardian The Counted: people killed by police in the United States – interactive | US news | The Guardian. I summarized the reports.

12/12/16 Francisco Serna, 73, shot after neighbor mistook crucifix for a gun and called police

12/11/16 Amber Lewis, 44, shot after she called police threatening to kill girlfriend and self, then went out on porch with replica gun

11/30/16 Daniel Landeros, 41, died after being tasered and handcuffed

11/29/16 Toby Cummins, 55, shot after stealing a beer and threatening officers with a box cutter, neighbor said no threat to officers

11/18/16 Pablo Cartagena, 23, shot as he ran from police after they suspected he was trying to steal from cars

11/21/16 Sarah Palmer, 35, combative mentally ill patient tasered, died in handcuffs

11/19/16 Adalid Flores, 29, chased by police in car, shot after he left car and was running away

11/16/16 Bruce Johnson, 39, tasered then died in handcuffs

11/06/16 Christian Redwine, 17, police followed stolen car into another state and shot 3 thieves at end of chase

11/05/16 Patrick Wise, 34, shot in pursuit while driving a stolen car

11/04/16 Abraham Ortiz, 26, after acting erratically, shot during “altercation”–apparently unarmed

11/02/16 Jesse Taylor, 40, shot while fleeing on foot after robbing bank

11/01/16 Michael Shriver, 39, died after being tear gassed while evading cops under house

Maybe most Whites are not aware of it because the media skews the narrative too much towards police brutality/shootings of Blacks!

Note: How many people are aware that pedophilia is more rampant in schools and Protestant churches as a whole than in the Catholic Church?

We can’t know where it has been the most rampant, because it has been so studiously covered up everywhere.

We ought to have known, back when we learned that mothers and grandmothers covered up the abuse of their children and grandchildren, that there was a lot of people covering for crimes that we’d never have imagined could do such a thing just to keep up appearances.

We know better now. We also know better than to believe that humans don’t make unfair distinctions based on prejudicial judgments they might not even be aware of. We know better to believe that people don’t make up distinctions without any basis. We know we are prone to do that. We have to know that unless we actively take steps to avoid doing that, we’re going to do that. When we didn’t know better, we might have had an excuse, but in these times, we don’t.

But that’s true of the reverse which clearly shows that they don’t care about victims and only about Church bashing.
