Who would you vote for in America?

I think people “accept” the reality of the electoral college just fine. But when it happens three times in the past five presidential election cycles that the popular vote does not align with the results of the electoral college, people are also smart enough to ask if this is right for our democracy.

I seriously doubt these same people would have any problem whatsoever with the electoral college, if the population in this country were distributed differently, and the electoral college favored their interests.

I wouldn’t be thrilled about it, but what’s sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.

Last I checked, Senators are not allowed to select who else will be in the Senate with them. Unless one owns their own business, we don’t get to pick and choose our co-workers.

Raising my hand: I’d have major problems with it either way. And I think you’re selling short a lot of Americans.

Okay okay okay. I’m going to try and clarify some things here:

I would not vote for anyone who supports heavy abortion, gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research. The Democrats do this so I couldn’t vote for them.

I think you shouldn’t vote for Biden but if you have a pro life Democrat in your area then that’s different.

Republicans are generally for The death penalty. Thus I would be unsure about voting for Trump.

You have to forgive me when I get confused between Liberal, democrat and left because these are all associated heavily with each other, although I realise they’re different. I’m not American so I’m not heavily in the know about these things.

When I’m talking about Democrat-I mean anyone who goes along with main democrat ideas, like abortion and gay marriage. They are usually for universal health care, distributed taxes (higher earning higher taxed), want to decrease military spending and want lighter immigration laws.

Although there are of course exceptions to this. This makes It hard to define Democrat then because I’m sure you could form a republican by taking Democrats with opinions that aren’t usual democrat opinions, forming their opinions together and make a person out of them.

But in this post we are talking about Biden in particular so sorry if I went off track here.

Yes the church isn’t a political institution and does not require us to vote one way or the other. However, we have a duty not to vote for people with opinions radically opposed to church teaching and our vote should aim achieve some sort of social justice.

Trump might not achieve good social justice for the poor and the needy immigrants. He is also for the death penalty. Biden has little respect for the unborn and seems to be not fond of a lot of Catholic social teachings like most Democrats in general, like things about marriage.

This clear things up? I’m sorry if I was harsh before but I just think it’s a very important issue.

If I’ve got anything wrong here tell me.
Unless @QuietKarlos would like him as his VP running mate?
How could I say no to Larry the Crash Dummy 😄

So, the pro-life democrats here in the deep south, I can’t vote for them? I am more worried about the person than the party. (But I certainly would not vote for Joe Biden).

I agree, it’s just that most Democrats are pro abortion and that’s who I was more reffering to.

Neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party is not guilty of racism in their own party and from their own members—elected or otherwise (Jesse Helms, Thurmond Strom. etc…) People can’t change history and can’t run from it. Facts matter. Truth matters. Politicians must be held accountable for their actions.

If Senator Byrd of West Virginia, along with his fellow southern Democrats, were successful in their filibuster attempt to block the Civil Rights Act of 1964, how much longer would blacks and other minorities have had to suffer the pain of racism???

People often forget that the former President George HW Bush was against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 while running for a Senate seat in Texas…

I’m voting for Biden. He has experience as Vice President and will be able to start the healing of our nation after Trump has led us to the brink of failed state status. I’m a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. I’m pro life. That means I’m against abortion, against euthanasia, against elder abuse, against systemic racism. I’m for national health insurance, a free standardized education for all, a fairer tax program. ( American billionaires paid less in taxes in 2018 than the working class,. In 2018, billionaires paid 23% of their income in federal, state, and local taxes , while the average American paid 28%.) I believe black lives must matter before all lives matter. As a Catholic I believe in trying to live Christ’s teachings in a meaningful way in my life.

If we continue to vote for the 2 major parties, we are giving them permission to continue on with the same & nothing to very little changes.

Vote for change by taking your vote away from the 2 majors & vote the alternative

So you’re voting for someone who is for abortion and euthanasia but since he gives free standardised education and fairer tax that would sway you to vote for Biden?
I believe black lives must matter before all lives matter.
What? All lives are equal.

To answer your question, I’ll definitely be voting for Joe Biden. That’s my final word on the matter. The question of Catholics and voting has been debated over and over. But, since you wanted to know, I am an American and a Catholic, and I’ll be voting for Joe Biden. No doubt about it.

I find both of these candidates severely lacking. On the one hand though, I can’t vote for the democrat if he supports abortion. That is a full stop for me. Some things are negotiable, that isn’t. After Trump suggested Pine Sol or UV might be helpful in dealing with C19 Toto finally pulled the curtain back on the Wizard’s real IQ. Children were laughing about that.

Even with all of that, there are things there that both Candidates have to offer, but it seems that with each passing day, those offerings get more and more narrow. I was embarrassed during Obama’s apology tour at the beginning of his first term, but at least the man had some intelligence. The problem was that he supports abortion, and his “red lines” were meaningless to our adversaries.

Why watch Seinfeld when there is Twitter? You can’t make this stuff up. The only thing I know to do is to throw my vote away on some pro-life candidate that wont win or not vote. I don’t know if I can do that if this movement to defund police departments gets any traction. I might have to vote for Pine Sol again.

All “VERY VERY” depressing.

American Solidarity Party.

My protest vote for a third party means a lot more to me than choosing between two repugnant (imho) candidates.
That’s who I voted for last time. I don’t care that they don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. If a third party gets enough votes, the big 2 will have to look at why and take that into consideration next run. Maybe just maybe they’ll give us some choices we can get behind out of a desire to win out votes in the future.

Interesting. Who are the American Solidarity and what are some of their main ‘selling points’?

OP, in this one if you want the US to have any international standing, whatsoever, then it vote Blue no matter who at this point.
True, but that wont get you any mints on your pillow at the Purgatory Hilton!

The US in practical terms has no Left on its political spectrum, it has the Centre-Right Democrats and the Further-Right Republicans.
The left-right spectrum is relative. There isn’t a centre either. It’s all arbitrary.

Example, this government supports a strong welfare state. It also gave money to Syrian refugees to go back to Syria. Is this a left-wing party or a right wing party? And who are they?

Answer:
Denmark’s Social Democratic Party, which is right now in power.
Imagine the response if a headline were “US government official hails lovely numbers as refugees leave” rather than “Danish minister hails lovely numbers as refugees leave”.

For me their main selling point is that they seem to have a more consistent pro-life ethic that lines up with Catholic teaching. When I look at the major two parties I just feel like neither of them get it when it comes to life issues.

They have good points, align with Catholic teaching, but have a terrible logo.

Yes, I get that the pelican is a noble creature but it looks like a sticker for a yacht club.

The other parties seem quite insignificant as well.
If no one else is ever considered no matter how bad the candidates are that have -R and -D after their names, it is guaranteed to stay that way.

I live in the US. I will be voting 3rd party or writing someone in, assuming that the presumptive nominees are the actual nominees. One never knows what is going to happen in this world. Having said that, I might consider Mike Pence, even though the national GOP has been disgusting me with the way so many of them enable even the President’s most outrageous behavior. As for the other parties, I’ll have to see their platforms and who their candidates are.

Just made me think who did the baby kill? His mother, of course. Killed her freedom, killed her ambition, killed her way of life… Oops!
