A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries.

Domestic violence, gang violence, etc are deemed the responsibility of the source country (barring war, famine) and are not justification for refugee status.

Being gay won’t qualify you for refugee status unless the risk is sever in your home country. An LGBT person from Thailand won’t get refugee status, but one from the Middle East likely would since LGBT are frequently killed in many ME countries.

Living in a rough neighborhood in Detroit, Chicago, or El Salvador doesn’t qualify you for refugee status, though being a reporter or politician who has been targeted might qualify you.

Quite right. I corrected my post above where I said there weren’t any internment camps for Germans in WW2 (I removed my factual error so I don’t lead anyone astray).

I can’t believe I was never aware of that. I majored in American history for my undergrad! 😳 Thanks for the correction, and the info. I enjoyed reading up on the topic today.

Thank you for this. This is exactly how I feel about politics. People get so worked up over it, and it’s the least important thing in the world. Prayer is what we should all be focused on. We could vote for pro-life candidates for the next thousand years and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference. Only the grace of God will change the hearts and minds of those who are opposed to the Faith. The rosary, a novena, perpetual adoration…this is how we should be proceeding. May God hear our prayers and bless our endeavors.

Politicians start wars, legalize abortion, write regulations that save lives or maybe close businesses.
All together Fed, State, and Local spending is around $7 Trillion each year.

You ignore politics at your own peril

The comment above is a great example of an unabashed Trump apologist rationalizing the administrations evil policy of separating families…there is no justification or defense for this undeniable atrocity.

Listen to Cardinal Dolan…he has spoken, and to ignore his thoughts on the subject show how the Gospel has been put second to politics.

EWTN has a Catholic bias. The rest of media (except the evening Fox News commentators) - yes, I’m including the Fox News daytime REPORTERS - are typically liberals.

Everyone has a bias and a world view that they positions their reports from. The honest reporter (like the honest historian) acknowledges their bias.

The untrustworthy reporter pretends they don’t have a bias.
 
Thats what trump do all the time. He calls media that tell the truth ,fake news.im still waiting when is he going to release his tax returns.its so sad that many posters here on this site considered trump ,basically their god and they call themselves catholic.how can one support an administration who separates children from their parents.they dont only blame the parents,they blame also the babies and children for crossing illegally.thats how stupid and inhumane trump supporters are. I have an ultra conservative fb pal,whom i know for yrs. he and his circle of friends keep stating ,that all who does not support trump ,should be jailed. I never comment on his posts,as i know hes is a dunce.just read an article about canadians boycotting american goods. We already begun boycotting companies that support trump . I guess ,if we will have to puchase appliances,vehicles we either buy them in canada or mexico.we will definitely avoid vacationing to those states ,where trump won and will inquire each business we deal about political views,if theyre kkk sympathizers ,leftist or indep,since we are the latter.

The dictionary says that a concentration camp is, “A prison camp in which political dissidents, members of minority ethnic groups, etc. are confined.” Isn’t that what happened to Japanese Americans? They were incarcerated in prison camps because they were a member of a minority ethnic or racial group. Do you say that the camp at jasenovac was an internment camp or a concentration camp ?
 
I really see no alternative, unless we fill out the application and send them back over the border.
Catch and release of anyone with a kid is a very bad idea.
Running family detention centers is fraught with risk the children will be harmed by other adults in the detention centers.

I’d suggest setting up a refugee camp at our border, but let’s be honest here. They aren’t refugees, they mostly economic migrants working a loophole. Many have been deported multiple times.
 
Sesamestreet(dot)org is a more reliable news source than Breitbart. So is the Oregon Catholic Sentinel. 😀 Let’s see what those camps actually resemble.

It seems like it was much worse under Obama where children were put in cages.

Why did not anyone talk about Obama putting children in cages? I have seen monkeys in cages and felt sorry for them, but it is worse for putting children in cages.
 
Concentration camps is related to some form of torture.
Must be related to the children be separated from parents and that experience of isolation
I do not think one would doubt that facilities be respectable in the US for children,or at most improved if they weren’t . One would think …
 
It is not right to separate families. Now there are stories of parents being sent to their home countries without their children. True or media hype?
I have only seen pictures of boys? Why are there no pictures of girls? This whole thing makes me ill.
