I wish the bishop would do that to my community. This is awesome!

Though I can’t say for sure, I would say that it is highly likely that this is sacrilege.

“Love is patient, love is kind…love doesn’t insist on its own way.”

It seems that perhaps St. Paul would disagree.

It’s only water so what’s the big deal? If a group of Muslims felt they needed to crop dust water over the town, I’d say Knock yourself out.

When I was just a beginning Christian, someone was complaining about their problems to me and I said ‘I’ll pray for you’ because I would appreciate if someone had compassion on me and remembered me in their prayers. To me, this is what Love looks like. I was taken aback when they were very insulted and told me off.

What a good lesson I learned that day.
We are in a battle. One thing I know is that the devil does not like holy water, blessed salt, rosaries, Bibles and so on. Nothing makes him spit nails like those things that help us to connect with God.

True this. It would seem though that what the OP describes is the opposite, no?

In any case, I would bet that if you found a good Catholic commentary on St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, you’d come away with a different view of this passage.

Indeed we do. Which is why we are all thankful for a merciful God and Savior.

You’d have to ask everyone in the community that got sprayed how they felt about it to figure that one out…

Can you or somebody else explain to me such as why blessing the town is sacrilegious? Is it really any different then parading Corpus Christi around your town? When Pope JPII blessed the whole world, was that a sacrilege as well?

It baffles me how other Christians think this is problematic. I just don’t get it.

Anyone can feel sad about anything, so whether this should get a special priviledge isn’t clear-cut.

It is because using a crop duster isn’t reverent. So, in other words, it is about whether or not the sacramental was used in an appropriate manner.

I see it as efficient, much more efficient than having the bishop take hours out of his day to manually sprinkle water on the entire town.
You can “bless” a town without spraying the unwilling with water
But that is still getting blessed against their will. Again it’s no different. It’s literally just water. Holy water that could potentially exorcize evil away from the town. Holy water that could bring the Holy Spirit into someone and get them converted.

Would it be more “reverent” if it was sprinkled out of a plane with a watering can?
Reverence is mostly subjective.
The prudent use of sacramentals is important so that they aren’t presented to the public in the wrong light. Mum used to tell us the story of an old Irish mother who had a holy water font at the front door. If people didn’t bless themselves as they entered, she would flick some water at them. It resulted in some young people making a mockery of the practice by flicking holy water at each other in an inappropriate way.

Perhaps the crop dusting thing will be addressed at some point by the USCCB. It’s not like the old days where the secular world still had respect for Catholic culture.

That was part of an exorcism of the entire diocese due to the extreme evil activities that were prevalent in the area…related to drug cartels I believe.

Does your Church know that? I’m just a non-Catholic Christian trying to learn, but I don’t think that’s what the Church teaches. Why would the Church teach we non-Catholic Christians have no faith, but in the same breath call us seperated brothers and sisters?? @TheLittleLady is a voice I’ve come to trust on this.

Have you told the US Government this?? They may be interested in hearing… 🤔

I would say attitudes such as the above could be a WHY some wouldn’t want a “blessing” or a prayer from someone not of their same religion in a case like this… 🤷‍♂️
