hi SD. it was late and i went to sleep last nite. but here goes. gen ; 1,28 does mean what is says. populate the earth. but notice the word RE-plenish the earth. it implies that the earth was populated befor man, and that man was to replenish it. as i understand it, the earth was a , if you will, a vacation spot for sons of god and other angelic beings. but things went wrong and a war took place that destroyed the earth. so, my friends, that one word replenish goes un noticed by most. it had to be pointed out to me. most things had to be pointed out to me, cause im not the sharpest tool in the shed
This shows why not all versions were not allowed by the Catholic church if you look in the New American or the Old Douay Rheims verision it says to fill the earth, it was the Protestant version KJV that says replenish.

hey all, let me tell you a true story. when i was a young christian, i ran away from home. well, i walked away but i talked it over with my mother. i wound up hitchhking all the way to berkley calif. well, someone walked up to me, a girl, and handed me a book. i said i really dont need this but thanks. she wouldnt take it back. so, i dont know why or how, but i held on to that book for 2 weeks until my mom sent me a plane ticket to come back. i was still a minor. it was in my hand on the plane ride. i didnt even look at the title. i didnt know what it was. well, back home i continued to read the bible and i would come across terms and words i didnt know. it dawned on me that this book i was given was a bible dictionary. i was able to understand what i was reading. and what wasnt in that dictonary , i asked god to explain, and he would eventually get around to it. well, there you have it
Let me guess, that “dictionary” explains all about the Rapture and stuff, right?

You do realize that books - even Bibles and Bible dictionaries - are created by human beings, right? Some of whom may have some pretty wacked-out theology - which is why you need to watch for the Imprimatur and the Nihil Obstat, so that you can be sure that the book contains no doctrinal errors.

wanner wanner wanner, you know as well as i do that the holy spirit dont play that. he is not the spirit of confusion.
Why are there 5,000+ Christian denominations if the Holy Spirit tells everyone the same thing every time?

Either the Holy Spirit tells different people different things, or some people misinterpret what the Holy Spirit is telling them.

So, how do we know who is right if we both claim the Holy Spirit is telling us different things? Please just answer the question.

My translation says, “Fill the earth and subdue it” - nothing about “replenishing” there. You sure you’re reading an approved translation?
hey JM , how you doin today. is my bible approved? approved by who. its the king james. the bible of bibles. time and time approved by god. thank you very much.

yes JM, it was just a dictionary, no preaching, no agenda. god had that girl put it in my hand. if he wanted me to have it, thats good enough for me.

hey wanner, that is one of the best questions ive ever heard. now, think thru your question. the holy spirit is not the author of confusion.jesus liked to say that everyone who says Lord Lord isnt going to get into the kingdom of heaven. why all the different denominations? because they are of men, not god. god doesnt have a club or organization or religion. the holy ghost is not speaking to these groups. obviously. easy question to answer. hey, was jim jones a man of god? he had a church and fooled people into thinking he was. the same foe all the other religons and clubs. great question. god loves you friend

i almost forgot. that dictionary had no mention of the rapture. i kinda was suspecting something like that when i fisrt started studying. but was pointed in the direction by fellow christians. shown scripture, in other words. the taking away is mentioned a few times thru the bible. believe what you want. its a free country, for now. my bible was written by god and he states that many times. maybe your was written by men

But johnpaul, how do you know this?

I’m sure all the groups you mentioned above believe sincerely that the Holy Spirit is speaking to them, just as you believe that the Holy Spirit guides you.

My question is, how do you *know *with such certainty that the Holy Spirit is not speaking to these various groups? What is your litmus test, so to speak?

hey wanner, this question is by far better than the rest. i can see you are searching. ok, lets go with what jesus said. the comforter, the holy ghost would come after he went up. jesus said the holy ghost will direct us in all ways.jesus said many time that man has not reveiled the things of god to man. the holy spirit has revieled these things to man. jesus said that unless a man is born again, he will not see the kingdom of heaven. i was born again.

hey joanna, how do i know? do you believe in a strong god or a weak god.? my god is strong. my god makes it plain that i am his and he lets me know the ways of the spirit. jesus said open the door and i will have dinner with you and you with me. dont let people tell you otherwise. either you believe what jesus said or you dont

At the risk of appearing pedantic, the KJ bible was approved by… King James or rather, the British Crown who held the copyright. It was produced and published to reflect religious beliefs held by the British Crown and as such was possibly inspired more by political motivation than by God.

As an Englishman I find it very flattering to hear that our little book has had and continues to have such an enormous impact.

I am rather bemused by this whole thread. I like my life. It was given to me by God. It’s going to be short enough without wishing to be whisked away half way through it.

hey wanner, the litmus test is ; is the holy ghost dwelling in you? are you saved? if your saved you know the spirit. if youre not saved, you arent sure of your salvation. lots of people are sure of going to heaven. but the saved are sure and you cant shake them.if you arent saved, you still ask questions.

that’s a very fanciful interpretation. What if the British Crown deliberately altered the text so as to seemingly validate their military and colonising aspirations? Let’s face it, the bible version you’re quoting from was copyrighted by the Crown.

If you do believe that the KJV is totally inspired by God then you must also believe that the British monarchy, Britain and the British people were similarly God inspired and remain so. I would like to go along with that but common sense and history tells me otherwise.

Incidentally, you quoted Queen Elizabeth 1 in an earlier post. As always context is everything…her father, King Henry 8, had just broken away from the Catholic Faith and set up his own church, all just to divorce his wife and marry his mistress. A few years down the line and they produce their own version of the Bible…the one you hold so dearly. Hardly an auspicious set of circumstances.

Dear johnpaul there have been many translation error found in the KJV over the years. It with other translations were the reason why the Church did not give permission for every one to put out a bible and forbid Catholics from owning and read many translation. they contained translation errors. Now think about this in the creation story man was to replenish that contradicts the Creation
story If Adam and Eve were the first then how could there have been others here before the now they have to replenish?🤷

It seems you have fallen into the trap that so many and yourself speek of… First you said the Bible is easy to understand and can be taken at face value… now we hear all these stories about people infuencing your decisions and understandings… You say the HS doesn’t confuse, and Catholics agree totally, but then you go on to basically say that all those that don’t see the Bible as you (are whoever taught you) must be confused… but guess what; other Protestant denominations would feel the exact same way about you, and they too would totaly believe they are being guided by the HS and would use the same arguements you use and believe with all their heart they are right and you are wrong… You must admit that the Bible actually isn’t always that easy to understand?

The other thing… please could we have an honest answer… Are you really Catholic? I have yet to see any reference to your life at any point, that would resemble that of a Catholic… And for as long as you talk about believing things the Catholic Church does not, I would find it very very strange that you would still be a Catholic if you ever were one in the first place.

jesus said that unless a man is born again, he will not see the kingdom of heaven. i was born again.
So was Jim Jones - so was everyone in the whole world who claims to be Christian. What makes you right and him (and the rest of them) wrong? Are you special in some way? 🤷

There is no passage in the Bible that teaches a two-staged coming of Christ, including both a secret rapture and then a glorious second coming.

Christ will come again, but all of us will experience it, believer and unbeliever alike. It will be glorious. It will be final. It will be accompanied by the final judgment. When it happens, some might want to be left behind, but all will be included: some to everlasting life and bliss, and some not.
