He does not speak politically correct. He speaks like it was spoken in his generation.
My parents were born in 1941, five years before Trump. And they definitely never spoke as Trump speaks…

Everyone is different. He’s a New Yorker and he is direct. My mother- in law was old Yankee and she was similar.

I don’t think that’s direct speech. I think it’s reckless speech. If anything, the people I knew/know of that generation were far more deliberate in their speech.

I always enjoy the direct ones but I do think he got sidetrack with Dr. Bill and am not defending that.

I was born in NY and I never ridiculed a handicapped man. Being plain spoken does not involve a ‘statesman’ using derogatory nicknames for political opponents, either. The Trump apologists have no credibility.

I have a lot of family in New York and in NE in general. They have their owns way and I love it. OK I give you he should not have mention handicap and the name calling is a bit much but that is where we are today.

I’ll take a person any day who will tell me to my face rather than one who gossips/knives me behind my back.

You want gentle and soft spoken, that is not him.

I don’t have respect for a person that makes fun of my handicaps or name calls to me either in front of my face or behind my back. Is that really required that we accept one or the other in America today, because NEITHER is acceptable to me.
Call him crazy if you will, senile or losing it.

I totally agree with him on the elderly. Let them make up their own minds on their care and let them decide how they chose to live or die.

Give them any drug they want if they feel it will help in SARS. Let them take plasma. Stay out of their affairs.

Trump’s rhetoric and policies have lowered American prestige worldwide. He has exacerbated ethnic and cultural divides in the nation. I don’t know what the lasting effects of that will be. Plus, much of the economic gains had been the result of the policies of a previous administration. Myself, I cannot ignore Trump’s conflicts of interest with his business interests. He puts his own good before the good of the nation. Some presidents (like Carter) enforced policies which hurt their own businesses.
This is mostly your opinion. Many of us think President Obama showed an incredibly weak foreign policy culminating in an unbelievably generous package to Iran and hindered economic growth via stifling regulations.

These are all opinions which can be debated.

But I dont think anyone can disagree that we were in an economic boom before this virus.

Nobody expects gentle and soft spoken. Quite often people want forceful and commanding. What people don’t want is rambling incoherence. And I think senior Republicans have been sufficiently alarmed by his performance over the last week that they’ve convinced him to reduce his exposure by not taking part in any briefing. It’s sad that that is even necessary, because in many other jurisdictions senior political figures do share the stage with health officials, and can do so without attempting to self-aggrandize or by making counterproductive statements.

If there is a test of any leader that counts, it’s during a national or global crisis. When you think back on the great leaders of America’s past; Reagan, Eisenhower, FDR, Lincoln, can you imagine them behaving this way? All these men were faced with crises, some of even an existential nature, and whatever private crises they may have been facing, what the citizens saw were men of resolve, confidence and purpose, who put the national interest ahead of the politics of the days.

By any measure, and however well or ill America is doing, Donald Trump has shown himself to be a poor communicator and a poor leader. He’s reaping what he has sown, and I’m mindful of Matthew 6:5. Donald Trump is getting his reward.

No, it’s more of just being a jerk. Making fun of a handicapped person puts you in the bottom 1% of humanity as far as I’m concerned.
That comment was a long time ago and debate has gone on about his roughness, rudeness.

The charge today is dementia, losing it and we are talking about his comment on Chloroquine.

The boom started with the recovery early in the Obama’s first terms. All indicators rose steadily from that time through the first years of Trump’s administration. There was no major change in the early years of Trump. Now there is.

I knew someone would disagree.

I didn’t say he had dementia or was losing it. I said that neither behind my back or to my face by making fun of my handicaps is okay with me. You seem to indicate that it is okay with you as long as it is said to your face. This isn’t blunt honesty, this is being a jerk. There is a vast difference.

As far as his comments on Trump’s recommendation of droxdr, it was a recommendation and it had no basis in medical knowledge.
No you did not but it was mention earlier in the thread that older people when they go on and on are thought to have dementia. Sorry I wasn’t directing toward you.

Thank you for at least commenting that you don’t agree on taking hydroxychloroquine. They can start by shorting the name of that drug.

I disagree and think when he said he would take it that he was speaking for many families. He is 73. He knows if he gets it, he sees his risk of sickness as high. As I said same earlier, I feel the same about plasma.

There were indications that the economy was already in trouble. Fed’s repo program, farming bankruptcies, inverted yield curve, foreign overproduction of oil, failing retails, etc. were troubling factors. Trump himself was calling for drop in interest rates, probably fearing an inevitable crash in the markets.

He speaks foolishly because that is the character his base wants to hear.

His base appreciates his “plain talk”, and his bombastic tweets as they see it, “fighting back”.

He does this on purpose.
No he speaks politically incorrect. Why should the elderly be denied a medication. Why can’t healthy relatives visit a dying love one? If it is your father, mother, it is your call.
It’s not due to his age. Do Carter, the Bushs’, or Obama speak in the same way?

I know many older adults who speak with measure and intelligence.

Trump appeals to a certain facet of his base.
Obama is not near the age of 73. We haven’t heard Carter speak for some time.
If I recall, both Bush presidents were ridicued many times over things they said.

Well, they had that pesky “R” behind their names, so the media turned them into evil, mysogenistic racists who wanted to rule the world, but were too stupid to use a grocery checkout.

Meanwhile, President Obama got the pass for 57 states, “corpse-man”, and other tongue slips.

Because that’s how the media is. Like the Times conflating Trump’s stupid words into “The President Tells Everyone to Drink Bleach!”

Certainly. We were way overdue for a recession.

President Trump’s biggest failure was his continued explosion of spending. While not entirely his fault (spending bills do start in the house), IMO he should have used his extensive bully pulpit to start slowing down our spending with the goal of a balanced budget.

There’s a world of difference between a slip of the tongue and repeated incoherence and misguided suggestions as to medical aid.

If you want a big difference, see how quickly folks here flag any factual mention of Melania vs. the criticism of Michelle Obama.
