The Times Inflates Trump's Foolishness into Monstrousness

Concur that President Trump says much more dumb stuff than Prezident Obama. But my point still applies.

Well, the George HW was usually mocked more for his speaking style. GWB did say some pretty silly things, but more in the Dan Quayle tradition. None of them, as I recall, ever said anything like we witnessed Trump saying over the last few weeks.

None of them went through what President Trump has been through since
November of 2016 either. @niceatheist

George HW had to deal with the collapse of the Soviet Union. His son had to deal with 9-11 and the 2008-09 recession. The former certainly isn’t as all-consuming as this pandemic, but the collapse of the Soviet Union was one of the most significant geopolitical events since the end of the Second World War.

And if the defense of Trump’s bizarre press conferences is that he’s found himself in the middle of one of the hardest jobs a president has had to deal with in decades, then that, to my mind, underscores, just how inadequate to the job he is. Even Johnson, who by all accounts, was a miserable, plain spoken and probably emotionally unstable man, never betrayed more than an abrasive bluntness in public.

As it is, the White House seems to be pulling back on the meetings. Perhaps the GOP leadership and White House officials are finally convincing him that his present conduct is not helpful.

President Trump had the pandemic almost immediately following the impeachment which followed the Kavanaugh hearing which followed the
Mueller investigation which followed the Steele dossier which followed threats of impeachment. No, nice try, but the Bush men did not go through the
criticism and ridicule and shaming and mocking like President Trump has gone
through.

So what you’re saying is he’s cracking under the pressure.

If that is what you think I said, you are wrong. I was comparing the difference
between the 3 presidencies.

Who, despite their flaws, never held a press briefing like the one Trump held last week.

Really?..I seem to remember older Bush going through the first Gulf War, and the younger going through 911…President Trump is now facing his only real crisis, and is failing miserably.

His only real crisis? You must be living in a different world.

Why doesn’t he do the natural thing in nations and that is hunkering down, working together in a non partisan way to defeat an ‘invading enemy’. He seems hell bent on promoting himself no matter what. He has zero instinct for community and nation.

The Kavenaugh investigation wasn’t a crisis; Mueller did his best even though Trump tried to hamstring him and the impeachment was due to Trump’s own actions. Trump has not been beset in this presidency. Folks make it seem like he is Gordon at Khartoum but Trump sure was able to get away, and more than other recent presidents.

He asked for the job. He has shown himself not up to the job requirements. I’m not going to tear up at the treatment of Trump.

How long did he continue the wild goose chase of birtherism after Obama was in office? And he never apologized for that stuff, which should not have been launched after anyone read the birth announcements in the Honolulu paper.

At base, Trump has not been treated unfairly.

I agree with you on this, however I want to point out that despite what we learned in kindergarten it does NOT take two to fight, only one. The press’ behavior toward Republicans over the past 30 years have shown that Republican Presidents who take your approach are constantly slandered and smeared by the mainstream media.

Outside the US we’ve been totally shocked by Trumps baiting and taunting and criticising of the New York governor. It isn’t editorialising. It’s actual video and tweets from Trumps very mouth. You’d have to be seriously blinkered to think that kind of carryon is worthy of a national leader.

Wow, that spelling got butchered. Auto correct maybe?

Trump doesn’t realize that, as President, he speaks with an authority and needs to be careful in his language. Hence, throwing out there random ideas isn’t a good thing - you do that behind closed doors with experts. But he really isn’t qualified or interested in being a President to the entire country, so I just ignore him.
What is the auto correct comment about?

He did a great job at today’s press conference.

He’s doing that. It is just one side isn’t listening.

They are control freaks and want to tell the sick elderly and their families what medications they can and can’t try while they are dying.

Everytime he tweets it is to taunt or bait someone or other. Why does he keep on doing that? Is he addicted to drama or something? Doesn’t that sense of responsibility to the welfare of his country come into play as it has in every other country? Could he be so shallow that he keeps doing that baiting thing because he is defended for every outrageous thing he comes up with? Where is the demand for a true leadership among his followers?

I agree, its atrocious.

Not suggesting two wrongs make a right, but I for one am glad, in a way, to see a Republican President push back, against the equally atrocious behavior of the press.

It only takes one to fight, and if only one is fighting then the results are predetermined.

He tweets because he wants to get the news out. When he spoke about
Hydroxychloroquine it was because He said he would take it. It is his own view and he knows many of his followers feel the same. He is 73.

If someone is dying, does it really matter if you try a treatment.

If you don’t want to take it, fine, but don’t tell others how to live.
