Don’t quite know what you are getting at here - English was not created in America, in fact it has it’s roots in Latin and German, among an assortment of others…
I wasn’t discussion English and it’s origns. I was speaking of definitions:)

Brilliant! We will start sending some needy immigrants via ship to the UK. I’m sure the Home Office would agree with you 100%. 1-2 Million would be a good start.
We already have a huge waiting list, also we are a tiny island, bearing in mind we already have over 64 million people and thousands on our waiting list, the idea to send more immigrants to us is silly. Also, the part we play in the EU means that we also fulfill a role in welcoming citizens of other European countries into our economy.

Why should our doors be more open than any other developed country on the planet? Please check the immigration laws of the UK, Canada, Netherlands, etc.
You have space - we have a good system that is constantly being improved, as well as other comittments from Europe.

The US has a waiting list too, and we have a free trade agreement with Mexico. Ergo, we should not have open borders either, by the same logic.

We are getting the most immigrants because we are such a good country with the most opportunity. We will always have the most people trying to get into our country. We therefore need to have a very fair and orderly way to become American. Doing it the illegal way is a serious problem for all. It also allows many criminals to enter our country.

Because we have ‘space’ is no reason to change our laws;)

I think that centres should be set up on the border, where those who have legitimate reasons for going to the border can go (i.e. those who need food desperately, or those who are fleeing death) then they could put down their name for immigration etc.

But this is just in my perfect world… 🙂

For example, wasn’t there a post a while back about towns out in the Plains trying to attract greater population?

Or maybe they could move to Ave Maria, Florida? Most of the immigrants are Catholic, after all.

We also have a huge waiting list. Ask anyone in the US on a Work Visa how difficult it is to stay.

Agreements you have with the EU are irrelevant. Tell you what, to be fair, we will send 10 Million needy by ship to the EU, and they can decide which countries to settle them in.

Wait, what am I thinking? It should be a free-for-all, like it is here. If we send them to the EU to sort things out, that’s a form of processing. That’s no good.

We have centers already. They are called border crossings. Those that have a legitimate reason to come into this country use them. Those who try to avoid the system try their luck crossing the desert. The vast majority make it into the country just fine. That is the problem.

A legal program could easily take care of any regional needs. There’s no need to justify illegal immigration.

Are you in favor of increasing the legal immigration quota? If the problem is simply that these people are here illegally, the easiest solution seems to be to make it easier for them to come here legally.

Libero, the Mexican people are not being persecuted or prevented from worshiping in their preferred manor in Mexico. Nor are they starving as in Africa. They are able to earn more money in the US and then they bring it back to Mexico and support their families in a better manor. Many are not even interested in permanent relocation. It is about money in many cases.

In the US, we actually love the Mexicans that work among us. They are very nice people and in most cases law abiding. However, it is true that many are milking our government for services that cost us a bundle. I don’t personally ever ask Mexicans if they are here legally. I am not a snob. If I hire from a legitimate business, then I leave that up to them. I really dont’ think you have a very accurate picture of what is happening here. In my state of Illinois, Illegal immigrants can go to the University paying instate tuition and that is a big deal. I am not in favor of that. In essence every citizen that is legal is paying the way for illegals, or aliens- the word you hate.

You are young and you do have good intenetions. I have a son your age and he is also passionate about certain things in the world. Come back when you have worked 35 years and built up equity in a house and then discuss this issue again.

If they are legal immigrants they can live where they wish already;)

These are people, stop making it sound like you can just ship them anywhere - they are not animals!

Russia is huge though, it could hold them - but you see immigrants wouldn’t want to go to Russia due to the fact it is somewhat corrupt.

The UK is fulfilling it’s role, this is the US’s issue. Agreements with the EU are not really irrelevant either, we allow members of the EU in, to take advantage of our workload and education, being a part of a community requires us to do this, and an unfortunate consequence of this is cutting back on immigration - because we have so little space.

From where I sit, you want us to open up our borders. We aren’t going to do this, nor should we.

I believe we should be smart about our immigration, like other countries. People with skills and who are financially able to make it should be given preference.

As far as unskilled labor, I like the idea of the Guest Worker program. While I know some don’t agree with me, I think it should have a component included for legal immigration after a certain period of time.

I apologize for making it sound like animals.

Are you saying that if we made free transcontinental voyages available from Mexico or Central America to Europe, that they would choose not to go?

How terrible of a place is Europe to live in?
